Küp Prodüksiyon goes “beyond calibration” with VIOSO at Sinop Fortress Prison

Known as the Anatolian Alcatraz, Sinop Fortress Prison was built in 1887 and closed in 1997. By 1999, the prison facilities were handed over to the Culture and Tourism Ministry and now stands as a popular tourist attraction.

Wanting to create an immersive experience in the historical fortress and blend modern technology with 18^th-century architecture, the operators turned to VIOSO partner Küp Prodüksiyon to bring the old walls to life. Being a historical site, it was immediately clear that projection was the most appropriate technology as it can be mounted discreetly out of sight without damaging any of the historical building.

Küp Prodüksiyon selected 8 x Vivitek projectors, running at 1920 x 1200 resolution, to cover the wall and the floor. Four projectors covered the 15m x 4m wall, and another four covered the 15m x 6m floor area. To ensure pixel-perfect alignment, Kadir Yılmaz, who led the technical integration, deployed two camera calibration kits—one for the wall and one for the floor, and VIOSO6 auto-calibration software, which transformed this old prison into an impressive, seamless canvas.

Beyond the calibration, Küp Prodüksiyon, the Istanbul-based production company, also leveraged the power of VIOSO’s EXAPLAY. Designed with a focus on what customers need in 90% of their AV projects, EXAPLAY, running on a VIOSO Anystation server provided simple, affordable, stable and robust media playback. The full attraction was powered by a single Anystation Micro, demonstrating the power and versatility of this compact media playback server.
